Wiped film technology utilizes the fact that all chemical compounds have a characteristic vapor pressure. The relative difference in this pressure determines how readily a substance can be separated. Our units consist of a heated body where fluid is spread into a thin film by a rotating wiper blade assembly. The film forced into turbulent flow travels down through the inside wall aided by gravity and the slots in the wiper blades. While flowing through the heated zone evaporation takes place depending upon the characteristics of the feed material, system pressure and inside wall temperature. Vapor condensed inside the system flows to receiving flask or vessel on one side; non-evaporated fluid flows out continuously to receiver(s) on the other. This lab scale unit is so versatile it can be used in pharmaceutical, food grade, petroleum or chemical applications. Uses:Separation of heat sensitive material without heat degradation, concentration (fruit juices, heat sensitive pharmaceuticals from substrates) or evaporation, solvent stripping (including high viscosity), steam stripping, separation of fats and oils, aromatic compounds and more.

Advantages:Operator controls the time that material is exposed to the heated zone; LED readout of speed controller allows accuracy (0 to 725 rpm forward and reverse). This offers repeatability, prevents heat degradaton and contributes to purity of product. Modular design allows operator to independently position drive unit or speed controller on frame. Separable wiped film body and cold finger (on "two piece" units) plus quick release clamps for ease of cleaning. Turbulence generated by rotating wiper blades assist in heat transmission which lowers required temperature on the inside of the evaporator wall. 2 or 4 inch evaporator body uses the same drive mechanism; model size is based on the evaporator chamber.

Basic system:Includes 316 SST frame, drive unit and controller, 2 or 4 inch jacketed body with cold finger, wiping basket and carbon or Teflon® wiping blades*, dry ice trap with vacuum adapter and collecting flask, 1L or 2L sep funnel with adapter for batch** feeding material, 4 each 1L flasks (2 intermediate and 2 receiving) for collecting both stages of separated product, all clamps, couplings, O-rings and connectors for setting up unit plus a 316 SST flex line for connecting to a heat circulator. Chillers or circulators sold separately.

** Sep Funnel can be modified or replaced with custom feed adapter for continuous feed setup depending on volume or means of transferring product to unit.
